The sk’vati are a race of serpentine beings whose antiquity rivals that of the elves. There are two distinct races, one of which inhabits temperate zones while the other lives in tropical zones. The more slender northern race measures 10 to 14 feet long. Their scaled bodies have a metallic sheen and range in colors from gold and copper to pure white and inky black.
Very little is known of their language and culture and the northern race has dwindled in numbers to the point that they are seldom seen. Because of their inhuman appearance, sk’vati, when found, are often thought of as animals and hunted accordingly. It is not uncommon to see old sets of armor made of sk’vati scales, or shields made from their long, crested skulls. Their blood was once commonly used in alchemical and magical concoctions and is said to have unique properties. It is in high demand in certain circles, and can fetch a very high price.
Technologically primitive and understandably wary, sk’vati tend to avoid other sentient races whenever possible. They find mammalian beings too radically different to understand. Painfully slow to adapt to a rapidly changing world, the ancient sk’vati may soon disappear.
